Don't Be Spooked! Lose The Fear Of Changing Career

Posted 6 years ago •

Stuck in a job that leaves you feeling down in the dumps? Ready for a career change but aren’t sure where to start? Don’t fret! Although it may feel like a bit of a scary step, taking the leap and potentially finding a job that you love is worth the risk.

Fear of the unknown, starting afresh and failure are all common qualms when considering a career change. Leaving the job you’ve invested so much in might seem like the start of a horror movie, but if you aren’t happy and feel your true ‘calling’ lies somewhere else, it’s worth pushing your worries aside and going for it.

If you’re still unsure, here are some reasons that might persuade you to take the plunge…

You’re a different person

Chances are, you’ve changed a lot since the start of your career. Your priorities are different now; your skills have improved and your confidence has increased. It might be time to try something new and challenge yourself. If you feel stagnant in your current role, think about where you could head next to develop, learn and gain new skills.

You’re bored

Are you uninterested with your work? If you're finding yourself slowly become a extra on the Walking Dead, it may be time to consider that change of career!

Some people become bored of their job if they have worked in one area for a long time and feel they can’t develop any further. If this sounds like you, it’s probably time for a change. Pursuing something new will rekindle the excitement to get stuck into work and increase motivation.

Stress

If your job is becoming too much to handle, it’s probably best to reassess your priorities. Years of stress can take its toll, so changing paths and getting into a career with less pressure and responsibility may be the answer. Don’t think of it as going backwards though – sometimes it’s best to put yourself first.

You want to earn more

While earning high doesn’t necessarily equal job satisfaction, many people want to make a decent living and be given the chance to progress. If these things aren’t present in your current job, looking for other opportunities with higher earning potential could be the answer. However, keep in mind that money isn’t everything – don’t let the desire for a higher wage outweigh all other factors that lead to job satisfaction.
