QUALIFICATIONS

There are no formal academic entry requirements. Training is typically provided on-the-job. NVQs/ SVQs are available in some areas.

TASKS

  • Set up the laser cutting or engraving machine based on job specifications, material type, and thickness..
  • Calibrate and align the laser beam for accurate cutting or engraving..
  • Prepare materials, such as metal, acrylic, wood, or plastic, for laser processing..
  • Ensure proper alignment and secure positioning of materials on the machine bed..
  • Program the laser machine by entering cutting or engraving parameters, including dimensions and patterns..
  • Adjust settings such as cutting speeds, power levels, and focal lengths as needed..
  • Operate the laser machine to perform cutting, engraving, or marking tasks according to specified designs..
  • Monitor the process to ensure precision, accuracy, and quality..
  • Inspect finished products for quality, consistency, and adherence to specifications..
  • Identify and address any defects or discrepancies in the laser processing..
  • Remove finished products from the machine and handle them with care to prevent damage..
  • Sort and organize processed materials for further processing or shipment..
  • Conduct routine maintenance checks on the laser machine to ensure proper functionality..
