JOB DESCRIPTION

A Machine Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of manufacturing machinery. This role involves setting up machines, monitoring their performance, and ensuring the quality and quantity of produced goods meet established standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

There are no formal academic entry requirements, though some employers may require GCSEs/S grades. Some employers may set dexterity and aptitude tests for entrants. Normal colour vision may be required for some posts. NVQs/SVQs at Levels 1, 2 and 3 are available in a variety of areas.

TASKS

  • Set up machinery according to production requirements..
  • Install tools, moulds, or other necessary components for the manufacturing process..
  • Operate manufacturing machines to produce goods as per specifications..
  • Monitor machine performance and make adjustments as needed..
  • Inspect finished products to ensure they meet quality standards..
  • Identify and address any defects or issues in the production process..
  • Load raw materials into machines and unload finished products..
  • Monitor material levels and replenish as needed..
  • Perform routine maintenance on machinery..
  • Report any equipment issues to maintenance personnel..
  • Adhere to safety regulations and guidelines for machine operation..
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required..
  • Record production data, including quantities produced, machine settings, and any issues encountered..
  • Complete required documentation for compliance and reporting..
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and increased efficiency..
  • Provide feedback to supervisors for continuous improvement..
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve production targets..
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors..
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace..
  • Ensure tools and materials are properly stored..
  • Stay informed about machine operation best practices..
  • Participate in training sessions to enhance technical skills..
