JOB DESCRIPTION

A Yard Operative is responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the organization, maintenance, and coordination of materials, equipment, or products within a yard or outdoor storage area. This role is often found in industries such as construction, manufacturing, logistics, or any field that involves outdoor storage and operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

There are no formal academic entry requirements. Training is typically provided Off or on-the-job. NVQs/ in Warehousing and Storage are available at Levels 1, 2 and 3.

TASKS

  • Arrange and organize materials, equipment, or products within the yard for optimal accessibility..
  • Maintain an orderly and efficient layout to facilitate smooth operations..
  • Operate yard equipment such as forklifts, cranes, or other designated machinery..
  • Assist in the loading and unloading of materials or equipment safely and efficiently..
  • Conduct regular stock checks and update inventory records..
  • Collaborate with warehouse or inventory control teams to reconcile inventory discrepancies..
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks in the yard, including cleaning, sweeping, and removing debris..
  • Report any safety hazards, damages, or maintenance needs to supervisors..
  • Provide assistance to customers or internal staff in locating and retrieving materials or products from the yard..
  • Address inquiries and direct individuals to the appropriate areas..
  • Communicate effectively with yard staff, supervisors, and other team members..
  • Provide updates on yard organization, equipment status, and any issues affecting outdoor operations..
  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment..
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required..
  • Collaborate with drivers, warehouse staff, or other personnel to coordinate the timely loading and unloading of materials..
  • Ensure accurate documentation of incoming and outgoing items..
  • Work efficiently to meet daily and weekly yard-related targets..
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement to enhance overall efficiency..
