Are you an experienced Waste Operations Manager with a background in leading frontline environmental or waste services? Do you enjoy managing operational teams, improving performance, and making sure services run safely and efficiently? If so, this could be an excellent temporary opportunity.
We're recruiting for a Waste Operations Manager to join a busy local authority team. This is a varied and hands-on management role where you'll oversee the day-to-day delivery of waste operations, support service improvements, and help drive operational performance. You'll work closely with senior management, supervisors and a range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure services are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
This Waste Operations Manager role would suit someone with strong operational leadership experience who can motivate teams, manage resources effectively, and identify opportunities to improve processes and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities of the Waste Operations Manager role:
• Leading the day-to-day delivery of waste operations and ensuring services are delivered safely and efficiently
• Managing, supporting and developing supervisors and operational teams
• Monitoring service performance and implementing improvements where required
• Supporting service improvement projects, including depot and technology developments
• Managing staffing matters including performance, training, health and safety, and workforce planning
• Working closely with internal departments, councillors and external partners to maintain effective service delivery
• Monitoring budgets, resources and operational performance to achieve service objectives
• Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, health and safety requirements, and Council policies
• Investigating operational issues, complaints and incidents, taking appropriate action where necessary
The ideal Waste Operations Manager will have:
• Previous experience in a Waste Operations Manager, Environmental Services Manager, Street Cleansing Manager or similar operational management role
• Experience managing large operational teams within waste, environmental or local authority services
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, develop and support teams
• A good understanding of health and safety legislation and operational compliance
• Experience managing performance, budgets and service improvement initiatives
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Confident IT skills and experience producing operational reports and performance data
