We are currently recruiting for a new Instrument Engineer to join our client – you could be local to any of their major UK sites.
Our client is the largest provider of industrial, welding and specialist gases across the UK and Ireland. Working as an Instrument Engineer, no two days will be the same, but you will always play a crucial part in ensuring the day-to-day progress of the business.

Responsibilities as an Instrument Engineer include but not limited to:
  • To act as a Technical Authority within their area of responsibility.
  • To act as a member of the nominated team for engineering projects relating to the specification and construction of new plants and modification of existing plants.
  • To prepare detailed system and equipment specifications and project documentation suitable for submission to external customers, consultants, and external legislative bodies.
  • To define the user requirements strategy for the project and assist in the preparation of the appropriate documentation taking account of operational manpower availability.
  • To prepare design and detail drawings of equipment and systems, including the procurement and use of external engineering services as necessary. To identify appropriate systems and hardware to meet control strategy requirements.
  • To participate in Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&ID) design reviews, HAZOP studies, safety studies, reliability studies and risk assessments to evaluate the safe and reliable working and operability of the plant and the integrity of plant protection systems.
  • To participate in the selection of equipment suppliers and contractors in liaison with Technical Purchasing.
  • To undertake pre-commissioning acceptance testing of individual systems and hardware including supervision of such tests by
  • external manufacturers and suppliers.
  • To undertake final plant start up and commissioning and ensuring that all “as built” documentation is issued and handed over as part of a handover manual.
  • To resolve outstanding reservations and claims for extra payments beyond the original scope of work.
  • To participate in the review of design documentation and related activities in respect of major projects undertaken.
  • Engineering.
  • To determine, in consultation with the Maintenance Planning Manager, the work content for routine maintenance in a safe and efficient condition of equipment and systems within the division.
  • To assist site management and the Operations Manager, Reliability Platform in the preparation of major plant overhaul schedules and work content.
  • To provide emergency backup to resolve plant breakdowns involving plant equipment and systems as required by the Instrument Head or Discipline Engineering Manager.
  • To ensure that plant, equipment and systems comply with the requirements of Internal, European standards and statutory requirements. To provide technical expertise in the preparation of appropriate standards.
  • To keep abreast of technology advancements, evaluating and recommending new technology to increase efficiency, safety and productivity.
Qualifications Required for our Instrument Engineer position include:
  • Engineering degree with Chartered status or working towards.
  • Or the equivalent practical, conceptual, and theoretical knowledge and experience gained through continuous and sustained growth in a range of increasingly complex engineering roles.
 
Working hours are 9am-5.30pm Monday to Friday – Work from home / hybrid working.
