The Opportunity
An established building services consultancy in
Southampton is looking for a
Senior to Principal Electrical Design Engineer to join its growing MEP team. This firm delivers high-quality, sustainable design solutions across a wide range of sectors including education, healthcare, residential, commercial, and specialist technical facilities.
This is an opportunity for an experienced engineer to lead projects, mentor junior staff, and play a key role in client engagement, technical delivery, and strategic growth. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of electrical systems for building services projects from concept to completion
- Develop and review detailed technical designs, calculations, specifications, and reports
- Oversee the production of drawings and 3D models using tools such as Revit and AutoCAD
- Manage and mentor junior engineers and support their development toward Chartership
- Take full responsibility for project performance, including quality, cost control, and programme management
- Attend and lead client meetings, site visits, and design team coordination sessions
- Drive energy-efficient and sustainable design solutions, integrating low-carbon and renewable technologies
- Contribute to business development through repeat client relationships and technical leadership
What You’ll Need
- Degree in Electrical or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent)
- Typically 6+ years’ experience within a building services consultancy
- Chartered or working towards Chartership with a recognised institution (e.g., IET, CIBSE)
- Strong technical knowledge across electrical design systems including power, lighting, containment, and energy-saving solutions
- Proficiency in design software such as Amtech, Dialux, Relux, AutoCAD, and Revit
- Confident client-facing skills and the ability to lead internal and external teams
- Solid understanding of UK regulations and relevant design standards (BS7671, CIBSE, Part L, etc.)
- Full UK driving licence
