Job Description

We are delighted to be supporting our client in the recruitment of a Warehouse Shift Manager. This is a key operational role, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day running of the warehouse during assigned shifts. The successful candidate will lead a team of Warehouse Team Leaders and operational staff, ensuring the efficient, accurate and safe receipt, storage and dispatch of goods while maintaining high standards of productivity and compliance.
 
Key Responsibilities
 
  • Supervise warehouse operations to ensure excellent service delivery to all customers.
  • Professionally manage and support all staff under your supervision, ensuring adherence to company and departmental procedures.
  • Guide and assist Team Leaders with their daily responsibilities.
  • Liaise with customers and final-mile providers as required, ensuring timely updates and smooth operations throughout each shift.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant processes, including customer and UKBF procedures.
  • Maintain a cost-effective shift operation, minimising overtime and lieu hours.
  • Ensure trucks are released in line with departmental procedures.
  • Identify improvement opportunities, highlight training needs, and report these to management.
  • Ensure timely completion of staff timesheets and appropriate allocation of breaks.
  • Oversee visitor management within the warehouse facility.
  • Ensure safe and compliant use of all vehicles, equipment and manpower, including pre-use checks.
  • Confirm staff are fully trained for all tasks and equipment they use.
  • Prepare the warehouse to receive incoming flights and maintain high standards of housekeeping post-breakdown.
  • Work collaboratively with other operational managers to allocate manpower effectively.
  • Communicate with departments such as Ground Handling, Cargo Services, Aviation Services and Motor Transport to support a smooth operation.
  • Manage weekly staff rosters, including annual leave, time in lieu and banked hours.
  • Cascade changes to procedures and distribute relevant memos to staff.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews for team members.
  • Ensure all incident and accident reporting is completed in line with company procedures.
  • Oversee refuelling and charging of vehicles and equipment.
  • Report and document any damages or shortages identified during unloading.
  • Ensure safe handling and disposal of waste materials.
  • Comply with all Health & Safety responsibilities and warehouse operational processes.
  • Complete process and procedure documentation as required.
  • Carry out workplace and security inspections.
  • Undertake departmental risk assessment reviews.
  • Act as a trained First Aider within the department.
 
Safety, Security and Compliance
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of all safety and security responsibilities relevant to the operation.
  • Promote a safe working environment, reducing incidents and accidents through proactive management.
  • Investigate incidents in line with company policy and implement preventative measures.
  • Promote data protection awareness and ensure compliant handling of personal data.
