Socio-Economics & Economic Development Lead Location: Remote, with occasional office visits to London, Brighton, Bristol, or Warrington
Salary: £50,000 – £58,000 (depending on location and experience)
An exciting opportunity has opened for an experienced Socio-Economics and Economic Development professional to step into a senior role within a highly respected environmental and sustainability consultancy.
This position is ideal for someone ready to take a strategic lead in shaping and delivering socio-economic assessments, policy research, and development strategies across a diverse range of public and private sector projects. With a strong focus on sustainability, regeneration, levelling-up, and impact assessment, you’ll play a key role in projects that drive meaningful change and long-term outcomes.
What You’ll Be Doing:- Lead the delivery of socio-economic assessments, including for planning and EIA
- Contribute to strategic policy work on regeneration and regional economic development
- Apply technical guidance including HM Treasury Green Book and Additionality Guide
- Manage and mentor junior staff across projects
- Work closely with internal teams (environmental assessment, economics, natural capital)
- Support business development and client relationships
- Help shape team strategy and contribute to wider group growth
What We’re Looking For:- Degree in economics, geography, or a related social science
- Proven consultancy or public policy experience in socio-economic analysis or economic development
- Expertise in demographic and labour market data
- Experience delivering assessments within the UK planning system
- Strong report writing, data interpretation, and client communication skills
- Experience supporting or managing teams
Desirable Extras:- Postgraduate qualification
- Experience in EIPs, DCOs or Health Impact Assessments
- Background in international economic development work
- Previous involvement in competitive tendering or bid writing
