Job Description
As a Senior Project Manager, you will bring a structured, delivery-focused approach and strong project management expertise to our Thames Valley team. Your strength lies in disciplined, outcome-led project delivery.
In this role, you will manage a portfolio of complex, high-value (£multi-million) wastewater projects—leading, influencing and collaborating with others to achieve successful outcomes. You’ll play a key role as a driving force within our Capital Delivery Programme, contributing to Thames Water’s Turnaround Plan and helping shape a more resilient future for our customers and communities.

As a Senior Project Manager, you will:
- Act as a client-side Senior Project Manager, leading projects from initial business need through to completion and handover
- Take full accountability for project performance, including schedule, cost, quality and risk
- Manage a portfolio of projects at varying lifecycle stages within a wider programme of delivery across the Thames Valley
- Champion a strong health & safety culture, leading with a proactive and safety-first mindset
- Build effective partnerships with our supply chain, driving performance and collaboration
- Define and shape project solutions, preparing compelling business cases that deliver best value
- Engage and collaborate with internal teams, regulators and external stakeholders to enable smooth and timely delivery
- Drive continuous improvement and support delivery against ambitious performance targets
- Commercially manage contracts to achieve the best outcomes for Thames Water
- Ensure governance and compliance throughout the project lifecycle, supporting seamless transition into operations
- Support and develop others—whether through mentoring or formal line management, depending on your preference

What you should bring to the role
Essential skills and experience:
- Proven experience delivering complex projects within the built environment, ideally within a regulated industry
- Degree in engineering or a related discipline
- A structured, analytical and disciplined approach to project management (cost, schedule, risk and quality)
- Project management or business-related qualification
- Strong leadership capability, with experience in influencing and coordinating cross-functional teams
- Solid understanding of Health & Safety legislation, including CDM Regulations
- Experience across the full project lifecycle—from solution development and design through to construction and handover
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of internal and external partners
- Confident, risk-based decision-making skills
- Experience within the water or utilities sector
- Chartered Project Professional (or working towards)
- Experience mentoring or supporting the development of others
- Extensive experience in a similar senior project management role
- Competitive salary from £67,000 to £75,000 per annum
- 26 days holiday per year increasing to 30 with the length of service (plus bank holidays)
