We’re looking for a Product Owner to come and work within our Smart Waste Product team and to lead the development of digital tools for Waste Operations, helping Thames Water become a leading digital-first utility. You’ll work closely with delivery teams and stakeholders to define product strategy, prioritise the roadmap, and ensure our solutions deliver measurable business value. This role plays a key part in improving operational performance and supporting environmental outcomes through data-driven decision-making.
What you’ll be doing as a Product OwnerYou’ll lead the development and enhancement of digital products that support Smart Waste operations, acting as the bridge between business needs and technical delivery. This includes a new product focused on river quality and data, developed in response to AMP8 environmental regulations. This product will help the business better understand the health of our rivers and take meaningful action based on data insights.
Your key responsibilities will include:- Setting the product vision and strategy aligned to real-world business goals, including environmental outcomes.
- Defining and managing the product roadmap in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Translating business needs into clear problem statements and user stories.
- Prioritising the product backlog and ensuring requirements are well-defined.
- Measuring and communicating the business value delivered by the product.
- Championing lean and agile practices to drive continuous value delivery.
- Supporting agile ceremonies and fostering a high-performing delivery culture.
- Building strong relationships with end users and senior stakeholders.
- Advocating change, learning, and continuous improvement.
- Identifying product enhancements, new features or even new products which support our waste AO&CD business.
Location: Hybrid – Kemble Court, RG2 6ADPlease note internal title for this role is Product ManagerWhat you should bring to the roleWe’re looking for a strategic thinker with a passion for digital innovation and a strong track record in product ownership. You’ll be comfortable working in agile environments and collaborating across teams to deliver impactful solutions. A good understanding of environmental regulations and a desire to make a real difference to the natural world will be key to success in this role.
To be successful, you’ll need:- Proven experience in product ownership, agile delivery, and backlog management.
- Experience working alongside operations to deliver digital solutions, with experience in waste operations and regulations being highly desirable.
- Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication abilities.
- Experience working in cross-functional teams and delivering continuous improvement.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to motivate and support delivery teams.
- A strong understanding of business change and how to ensure this is central to product delivery.
