Job Description

The ESG Reporting Manager will lead the production, governance and continuous improvement of Thames Water’s ESG‑related reports, disclosures, and data submissions. This includes responsibility for our Annual Sustainability Report, climate‑related disclosures (e.g., TCFD and UK Adaptation Reporting Power), the UK Sustainability Reporting Standards (SRS), UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) reporting, and other ESG‑related outputs.

The role ensures Thames Water meets evolving external sustainability disclosure requirements, supports credible, transparent communication of our progress, promotes accurate ESG scoring by ratings agencies, and embeds enhanced ESG reporting capabilities across the organisation. It will provide strategic oversight of enterprise‑wide ESG performance, ensuring that reporting insights directly inform business planning, investment decisions and long‑term risk management.

To be successful, the role requires strong analytical capability, excellent stakeholder engagement, effective coordination across technical and corporate teams, a proactive understanding of external ESG standards, and the ability to adopt new ways of working to maximise impact and value.

What you’ll be doing as an ESG Reporting Manager
  • Own the delivery of all ESG and sustainability‑related reports and disclosures, ensuring accuracy, clarity and timeliness
    • Lead production of the Annual Sustainability Report and key external submissions (e.g., UK SRS, TCFD, UK Adaptation Reporting Power, UN SDGs, ESG data packs).
    • Coordinate data & narrative collection, validation, and assurance across the business, ensuring clear audit trails and robust governance
    • Work with rating agencies to ensure that Thames ESG position is correctly represented in their assessment and to understand what activities we can implement to improve our scores
    • Maintain performance against UK Sustainability Reporting Standards (UK SRS S1 & S2) – reporting architecture & controls
    • Provide expertise and support on a wide range of departmental workstreams, including policy updates, climate change reporting, external sustainability disclosures, and broader reporting obligations
    • Contribute to cross‑functional initiatives that raise the quality, consistency, and integration of ESG information across the organisation
    • Maintain strong working knowledge of evolving sustainability standards, frameworks, and regulatory expectations
    • Horizon‑scan across UK and global ESG regulatory developments (e.g., ISSB, UK Green Taxonomy, SRS, government climate reporting requirements)
    • Advise senior leaders on emerging risks, opportunities, and compliance requirements
    • Contribute to long‑term planning for ESG reporting and assurance requirements for future AMP periods
    • Coach and support the development of line 1 and line 2 assurance for ESG processes, promoting good governance and risk‑based approaches
    • Act as a senior ambassador for Thames Water on ESG matters, representing the organisation with regulators, investors and external stakeholders to strengthen credibility and influence sector standards
    • Monitor regulatory developments and industry trends, assessing their impact on Thames Water’s assurance and reporting obligations
    • Support future planning for assurance requirements in upcoming AMP periods and price reviews, ensuring readiness for evolving regulatory expectations

What you should bring to the role
To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need are:
  • Experience in ESG/sustainability reporting, corporate reporting, non‑financial disclosure or regulatory reporting in a complex organisation
    • Experience interpreting and applying sustainability frameworks such as TCFD, SRS, ISSB, UK Government climate requirements, UN SDGs
    • Leading or coordinating large reporting programmes or cross‑business submissions with fixed deadlines
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex ESG data and disclosure standards
    • Ability to build effective working relationships across all levels of the organisation
    • Demonstrates strategic influence, collaborative leadership and effective communication across diverse teams
    • High integrity and a commitment to transparent, credible reporting
    • Ability to manage multiple workstreams and deliver against immovable deadlines
Additional skills and experiences would be great to have/bring:
  • Experience in a regulated environment, utilities, infrastructure or public sector setting
    • Experience working with external assurance providers or consultants
    • Skilled in developing governance documentation, SLAs, reporting frameworks and policies
