Thames Water is looking for a Field Investigations Analyst to join our growing Smart Metering Operations Centre (SMOC) team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in improving smart meter performance, enhancing data quality and supporting operational initiatives that help us deliver better outcomes for our customers and the environment.

Working closely with operational teams, field technicians, delivery partners and smart metering specialists, you'll analyse performance data, identify issues, prioritise investigations and provide insight that drives informed decision-making across the business.

What you'll be doing
  • Analyse and track field investigations from identification through to resolution.
    • Monitor smart meter performance, identifying issues such as non-responsive meters, data gaps, intermittent reads and other exceptions.
    • Prioritise investigation activity based on customer impact, business priorities, leakage management and operational requirements.
    • Work with field teams, planning teams, delivery partners and other stakeholders to coordinate and track remedial actions.
    • Produce reports, dashboards and presentations that provide meaningful operational insight.
    • Analyse trends, exceptions and performance issues to identify root causes and recommend improvements.
    • Investigate high consumption, potential shared supplies and other meter-related anomalies.
    • Maintain and organise smart metering data, ensuring information is accurate, accessible and suitable for future analysis.
    • Support managers with reporting, governance information and performance metrics.
    • Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives, projects and operational activities across the Smart Metering Operations Centre.
What you should bring to the role
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, Power Query, lookups and data analysis techniques.
    • Experience analysing large datasets and transforming data into actionable insights.
    • Experience creating and maintaining reports, dashboards and management information.
    • Knowledge of Power BI or similar reporting and visualisation tools.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis.
    • Experience working with databases, business systems and data quality processes.
    • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Effective planning, organisation and prioritisation skills.
    • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building abilities.
    • A collaborative, customer-focused approach and a passion for continuous improvement.
Desirable Skills & Experience
  • Experience with SQL querying and data extraction.
    • Knowledge of Smart Metering systems and Meter Data Management Systems (MDMS).
    • Experience using workflow, planning or ticketing systems.
    • Understanding of data governance principles and best practice.
    • Knowledge of the water industry or wider utilities sector.
    • Awareness of smart metering operations and performance management.
    • Experience supporting leakage management or asset performance activities.
    • Understanding of retailer relationships and market data flows.
    • Curious and investigative approach to problem-solving.
    • Self-motivated, proactive and able to work independently.
    • Confidence to challenge existing processes constructively and identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Adaptable and flexible in a fast-paced operational environment.
Base Location: Hybrid - Worcester House, Langley SL3 6EY.
Hours: 36 hours per week.
