About the Role
We are currently recruiting for a Casting Setter / Casting Straightener to join a leading aerospace manufacturer in Worcester.
This role forms a key part of the casting process following heat treatment. During heat treatment, aluminium and magnesium castings can naturally distort. As a Casting Setter, you will manually straighten and realign components to restore them to the required dimensional tolerances before they move on to machining and final inspection.
This is a highly skilled, hands-on engineering role, ideally suited to someone with strong mechanical aptitude and experience in traditional manufacturing or engineering environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manually straighten aluminium and magnesium castings following heat treatment
    • Use hand tools including hammers, mallets, bars, straight edges, jigs and fixtures
    • Read and interpret basic engineering drawings, dimensions and tolerances
    • Check straightness, alignment and flatness using gauges, rules and measuring equipment
    • Apply controlled force to avoid damage while achieving precise tolerances
    • Work to strict aerospace quality standards and manufacturing procedures
    • Identify defects or non-conforming components and report issues promptly
    • Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment
    • Work closely with the Heat Treatment, Inspection and Machining departments

Working Environment
  • Aerospace manufacturing facility
    • Aluminium and magnesium castings
    • Workshop and foundry environment
    • Manual role involving standing for extended periods and handling metal components
    •
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Previous experience within engineering, manufacturing or a foundry environment
    • Confident using hand tools such as hammers, mallets and straight edges
    • Good mechanical aptitude and excellent hand-eye coordination
    • Ability to work accurately to tight tolerances
    • Strong attention to detail and patience
    • Understanding of basic engineering principles

Desirable Experience
  • Casting, foundry or heat treatment experience
    • Aerospace, automotive or heavy engineering background
    • Fabrication, fitting, bench fitting or toolmaking
    • Metal straightening, fettling or dressing experience

This role is ideal for candidates who enjoy precision manual engineering work and take pride in producing high-quality components, rather than operating CNC machinery.

Permanent Opportunity & Career Progression
Successful candidates may be offered a permanent contract after 12 weeks.
Once permanent, employees benefit from a structured pay progression with four salary grades, allowing your earnings to increase as you develop your skills, experience and competency within the role.

What We Offer
  • Competitive hourly rate of £13.00 - £14.00
    • Monday to Friday day shifts with an early finish every Friday
    • Genuine temporary to permanent opportunity
    • Structured career progression with four permanent salary levels
    • Full training and ongoing development
    • Opportunity to join a respected aerospace manufacturer

If you have the hands-on engineering skills and attention to detail required for this role, we'd love to hear from you. Apply today with your CV to be considered.
