I’m currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established manufacturing company based in Irlam who are looking for an experienced CNC Turner to join their skilled and supportive machine shop team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong CNC turning experience, particularly using Fanuc controls, who is confident programming, setting and operating CNC lathes.

You’ll have the opportunity to work across a range of CNC turning equipment, take ownership of your work from engineering drawing through to finished component, and continue developing your technical machining skills within an established manufacturing environment.

The RoleAs a CNC Turner / CNC Machinist, you’ll be responsible for programming, setting and operating CNC lathes within the machine shop, working from engineering drawings to manufacture high-quality components accurately, safely and efficiently.

This is a hands-on position suited to someone who is confident taking a job from drawing through to finished component.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Programming, setting and operating CNC turning machines
  
  
• Working with Fanuc controls
  
  
• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and GD&T
  
  
• Reading, understanding, editing and proving ISO turning programs
  
  
• Selecting the most appropriate tooling and inserts for each job
  
  
• Setting tools, offsets, chucks, collets, bar feeders and associated equipment
  
  
• Producing first-off and sample components and checking them against required quality standards
  
  
• Monitoring machining operations and taking accurate measurements
  
  
• Troubleshooting machining issues and making adjustments or reprogramming where required
  
  
• Replacing worn tooling when necessary
  
  
• Completing production and quality records, job cards, timesheets and SAP documentation
  
  
• Carrying out routine and preventative machine maintenance and reporting faults
  
  
• Working in line with company quality and Health & Safety procedures
  
  
• Supporting continuous improvement and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency
  
  

What We’re Looking ForI’m looking to speak with experienced CNC Turners who are confident programming, setting and operating CNC lathes and take pride in producing high-quality work.

Essential ExperienceTo be considered for the position, you must meet one of the following experience requirements:

Either:

• A minimum 3-year engineering/CNC machining apprenticeship, PLUS at least 3 years’ additional hands-on CNC machining experience following completion of the apprenticeship
  
  

OR:

• A minimum of 6 years’ hands-on CNC machining experience within a relevant turning/machining role
  
  

You’ll also need:

• Strong hands-on CNC turning experience
  
  
• Experience working with Fanuc controls
  
  
• Confidence programming, setting and operating CNC lathes
  
  
• Ability to read, understand and edit ISO turning programs
  
  
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
  
  
• Good knowledge of selecting the correct tooling and inserts
  
  
• Strong technical engineering knowledge
  
  
• Excellent attention to detail
  
  
• Good troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
  
  
• Strong organisational and time-management skills
  
  

Experience with live tooling and sub-spindles would be advantageous, as would experience using CMM equipment.

An HNC/HND in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering would also be desirable but is not essential.

Previous experience working with plastics, composites or PTFE would be beneficial, although this is not essential.

You don’t need to have worked on every machine listed. If you have strong CNC turning experience, are confident with Fanuc controls and can program, set and operate CNC lathes, I’d be keen to hear from you.
