A world-leading teaching and research university, often ranked in the top ten in the world with an annual turnover of well over £1 billion are in need of an Analysis and Development Team Leader (Media Application) based within the IT department on a permanent basis

Role: Analysis and Development Team Leader Media Applications 
Location: Euston, London
Salary: Circa £48k (Inclusive LWA)
Times: The normal hours of work are 36.5 hours per week.

Job Essence:

  • The Analysis and Development Team Leader is the Service Operations Manager for the universities key media services including Lecturecast (Echo360) and Media Central (Medial).
  • They also provide second- and third-line application support to end-users. The Analysis and Development Team Leader is responsible for co-ordinating the activities of the Digital Education Media Application team and the virtual services teams supporting them in the day-to-day service management
Breakdown of Role:Service Operations Manager (SOM) for the educational media services- 40% of time
  • The Service Operations Manager (SOM) has day-to-day responsibility for ensuring the service operates successfully and will be the person who manages the resolution of incidents and problems and oversees approved technical changes to the service.
  • The SOM will have a working understanding of Media Services, the overall technical architecture and components of the service and will work very closely with their Virtual Service Team (VST) to maintain availability, reliability, capacity and performance of the service and holding regular team meetings to review these.
Application and Software Release Management- 20% of time
  • Provide a significant contribution to test strategies and plans as determined by the Information services department project framework
  • Supervise (and where applicable carry out) System Integration and performance testing in collaboration with universities software test and quality function.
  • As the person responsible for software robustness, you will lead on all testing and make testing decisions.
Support the operations and users of applications- 10% of time
  • Provide 2nd and 3rd line support for those applications within the team’s remit and act as an escalation point for any technically difficult, complex or urgent queries and issues.
  • Provide support using ITIL processes including incident (managing discrete service issues), problem (managing longer term service issues), change (manage change to IT services) and capacity management (ensuring the availability and performance of services).
  • Perform Root Cause Analysis of major incidents and recurring problems with application services and recommend corrective actions.
Knowledge Transfer and Training Delivery- 10% of time
  • Where the post holder is mainly involved in Application Development, provide knowledge transfer to 3rd line support teams
  • Where the post holder also provides 2nd line support to specialist applications, provide training development and delivery as part of the training virtual team.
Technical Leadership- 10% of time

Provide technical leadership for projects and services as required

Co-ordinate activities of the staff within the team and allocate tasks and as required manages the performance of team- 10% of time
  • Prioritise incidents and requests and allocate tasks to members of the team.
  • Make day-to-day operational and technical decisions within the team. Ensure and monitor task completion and quality of work
Qualifications, experience and knowledge Requirements:
  • Knowledge and experience of working with and supporting media technologies and implications of use within the Higher Education Sector.
  • Knowledge and understanding of large-scale Lecture Capture solutions such as Echo360, Panopto, MediaSite and/or digital media delivery and content management solutions e.g. Media, Kaltura.
  • Prior experience of IT system and process planning and/or implementation of media applications or teaching and learning applications to large user bases.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with and supporting media technologies and implications of use within the Higher Education Sector.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience of software testing methods.
