Job Description

Job Purpose
 
Ensure that people are fully involved and empowered throughout their contact with the service
 
Ensure that the person is fully understood in order that the most appropriate tailored solutions can be offered.
 
Identify and address any system barriers which prevent the people from experiencing the most efficient and effective journey through the service.
 
Ensure that people are empowered, connected, independent and have an improved sense of well-being through the provision of outcome focused support
 
Meet with people regularly to discuss their experiences of the service to drive further improvement.



Key Duties / Responsibilities
1.Promote positive approaches to diversity and identity in your area of responsibility, providing guidance and challenge as required.
 
2.Model the occupational therapy role, promote occupational therapy and decision-making within and outside the organisation.
 
3.Model and use critical reflective skills in management, practice and organisational supervision settings to enhance your own and others practice.
 
4.Maintain awareness of own professional limitations, knowledge gaps and conflicts of interest, actively seeking to address issues for self and others
 
5.Model and promote confident and critical application of professional ethics to decision-making, using a legal and human rights framework, and support others to do so.
 
6.Model and contribute to the development of best practice in use of power and authority within your sphere of influence. Provide challenge in situations where power is used inappropriately.
 
7.Model best practice, provide or seek out expert professional occupational therapy/legal advice, applying human and civil rights in complex situations where there are competing issues. Contribute to policy and practice developments to support service improvement.
 
8.Model and demonstrate professionalism, ensure professional occupational therapy standards are maintained throughout your area of responsibility
 
9.Foster and support an environment that promotes learning and practice development within the work place.
 
10.Demonstrate awareness of models and interventions for effective occupational therapy/social care practice
 
11.Deputise for the Strategic Manager and cover for other Team Manager colleagues as required
 
12.Be able to meet the requirements of the professional regulator.
 
 
Performance


  1. Collate and use data to:
 
  • Monitor demand for the service and align resources accordingly
  • Assess the effectiveness of the team and its individual members in delivering Purpose
  • Identify and tackle system conditions
  • Understand service user satisfaction and achievement of their ‘what matters’ outcomes
  • Identify and mitigate business risks but also identify and exploit business opportunities.
 
  1. Ensure, through the use of direct observation, data and citizen feedback, that team members are equipped to deliver the team’s purpose
 
  1. Utilise or arrange appropriate learning and development opportunities to address areas where performance needs to be strengthened
 
  1. Use relevant HR policies and procedures to address areas of poor performance or conduct where appropriate
 
  1. Be responsible for a devolved team budget and use resources effectively, innovatively and efficiently to fulfil the council’s responsibilities with regard to the provision of care and support
 
  1. Ensure that the statutory responsibilities of the service are fulfilled by ensuring that:
 
  • staff have the relevant knowledge and skills to fulfil their statutory functions
 
  • the team has the resources to fulfil its statutory functions and that incoming work can be allocated and effectively managed in line with risk and priority
 
  • quality of practice on the team is effectively monitored
 
  • Ensure that individuals are protected from abuse and neglect by appropriately addressing Adults Safeguarding Enquiries into the service and chairing complex Outcomes/Safeguarding discussions
 
  • Ensure that staff work in accordance with relevant Council processes, policies and procedures
  • Ensure that staff work in accordance with the requirements of the professional regulator/regulatory frameworks
 
  • Work with ‘provider’ colleagues to ensure that work is appropriately allocated to this arm of the business
 
  • Utilise relevant council processes, policies and procedures to ensure the effective, safe and accountable operation of the business
 
  • Foster and maintain a work environment which promotes health, safety and wellbeing of self and others
 
  • Escalate issues and concerns to the relevant agency/manager where action is required beyond the remit/level of the Team manager role
