A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Lambeth is seeking a dedicated High Needs SEN Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team.

The school caters to pupils across EYFS, KS1, and KS2 and has a strong focus on inclusive education and personalised learning. This role involves supporting pupils with high additional needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, Speech and Language needs, SEMH, and challenging behaviour.

You will be working closely with children who require consistent 1:1 and small-group support to help them access learning, regulate emotions, develop communication skills, and build independence within the classroom and wider school environment.
Staff work collaboratively with the SENCO, class teachers, Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, and Behaviour Support Teams to ensure every child receives the specialist support they need to thrive.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about SEN and behaviour support who is looking to make a genuine impact in a primary school setting.

Role and Responsibilities:
  • Provide dedicated 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with high SEN needs
    • Support children with Autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and SEMH needs
    • Assist pupils with emotional regulation, communication, and social interaction
    • Implement behaviour management strategies and support positive behaviour plans
    • Adapt learning activities to meet EHCP targets and individual learning needs
    • Help create a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment
    • Build strong, trusting relationships to encourage engagement and independence
    • Support pupils during lessons, transitions, breaktimes, and less structured parts of the school day
    • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals
    • Monitor and record pupil progress, behaviour, and wellbeing
Candidate Requirements:
  • Previous experience supporting children with SEN, particularly high needs pupils
    • Experience working with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs, or challenging behaviour
    • Strong behaviour management skills and a calm, consistent approach
    • Patient, resilient, and nurturing personality
    • Ability to remain professional and proactive under pressure
    • Experience in a primary school setting is desirable
    • Team Teach training is advantageous but not essential
    • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
This position is ideal for those looking to progress into:
  • Educational Psychology
    • Clinical Psychology
    • Teaching or SEN Teaching
    • Speech and Language Therapy
    • Occupational Therapy
    • Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS)
    • Behaviour Support or Pastoral Care
You will gain valuable hands-on experience supporting children with complex additional needs and developing practical skills within a highly supportive primary school environment.
