Job Description

Pertemps is currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Assessment Review Officer to join Somerset Council. This is a fully remote role offering a competitive hourly rate and the opportunity to work within a highly skilled SEND team.
Responsibilities:
- Tribunal Case Management: Coordinate responses to SEND Tribunal appeals, prepare legal documentation, gather evidence, and represent the local authority at hearings.
- Mediation Coordination: Arrange and support mediation meetings between families and the local authority to resolve disputes prior to formal proceedings.
- Legal Compliance: Ensure all actions adhere to the SEND Code of Practice, tribunal procedures, and statutory timelines.
- Stakeholder Liaison: Work collaboratively with parents, carers, schools, and partner agencies, managing cases with professionalism and sensitivity.
- Advice and Guidance: Provide expert advice to colleagues on tribunal and mediation processes to ensure consistent and lawful decision-making.
- Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintain accurate and detailed case records, outcomes, and learning points, contributing to service improvement and best practice.
- In-depth understanding of SEND legislation and tribunal procedures
- Experience in case management within a SEND or education setting
- Strong negotiation and advocacy skills
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Ability to work effectively under pressure while managing a complex caseload
