SEND Assessment Officer (0–25) – Newham
Location: Newham (Hybrid – Office attendance every Wednesday is mandatory)
Rate: £282 per day
Contract: Full-time

We are currently recruiting for an experienced SEND Assessment Officer (0–25) to join Newham's statutory SEND service.

In this role, you will lead on Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessments from initial referral through to the issuing of the final Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). You will work collaboratively with families, schools, colleges, health professionals, and other agencies to deliver high-quality, person-centred assessments in line with statutory requirements and the SEND Code of Practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of EHC needs assessments from referral through to final EHCP.
    • Coordinate advice from education, health, and social care professionals.
    • Ensure statutory timescales are consistently met.
    • Produce high-quality, legally compliant EHCP documentation.
    • Liaise with parents, carers, education settings, and partner agencies throughout the assessment process.
    • Review evidence and confidently challenge where information is insufficient or unclear.
    • Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with SEND legislation and local procedures.
Requirements
  • Previous experience working within a statutory SEND service.
    • Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and EHCP processes.
    • Experience managing EHC needs assessments.
    • Excellent communication, organisation, and case management skills.
    • Ability to work to statutory deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
