BSL SEN Teaching Assistant | Deaf SEND School | Wandsworth Are you passionate about supporting children with special educational needs and making a meaningful difference in their education?
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate BSL SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEND school for Deaf pupils in Wandsworth from September 2026. This rewarding role involves supporting Deaf children and young people with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and complex learning needs.
This position would suit candidates with experience working with Deaf learners, SEND pupils, or those who have a basic understanding or formal qualification in British Sign Language (BSL).
The Role As a BSL SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:
  • Support Deaf pupils both inside and outside the classroom.
    • Use British Sign Language (BSL) to aid communication and learning where appropriate.
    • Assist pupils with Autism, complex needs, and additional learning difficulties.
    • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to deliver personalised learning and support.
    • Help students develop their communication, social, emotional, and independence skills.
    • Create a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment.
The Ideal Candidate We are looking for someone who:
  • Has experience working with children or young people with SEND.
    • Has a basic knowledge of British Sign Language (BSL) or holds a recognised BSL qualification.
    • Is patient, caring, and committed to supporting pupils with additional needs.
    • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Can build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families.
    • Is passionate about inclusive education and supporting every child to achieve their potential.
