Higher Level Teaching Assistant Required We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a specialist Autism school in Wokingham from September.
This rewarding long-term opportunity is ideal for a dedicated education professional who is passionate about supporting children and young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and helping them achieve both academically and personally.
About the Role As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils with Autism across the school. Working closely with teachers and the wider SEND team, you will help deliver high-quality learning experiences and provide targeted interventions that enable pupils to thrive.
Key responsibilities will include:
  • Delivering planned learning activities and interventions
    • Leading small group and whole-class sessions when required
    • Supporting pupils with Autism and associated communication or sensory needs
    • Promoting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing
    • Assisting with the planning and preparation of learning resources
    • Monitoring and recording pupil progress
    • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, parents, and external professionals
    • Helping to create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
The Ideal Candidate We are looking for candidates who:
  • Hold HLTA status or have significant experience working at HLTA level
    • Have previous experience supporting children or young people with Autism and additional SEND needs
    • Possess excellent behaviour management and communication skills
    • Are patient, resilient, and adaptable
    • Can build positive relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues
    • Are confident leading learning activities and supporting classroom teaching
    • Have a genuine passion for helping children reach their full potential
Desirable Experience
  • Experience within a specialist Autism setting
    • Knowledge of Autism-friendly teaching strategies
    • Understanding of sensory processing needs
    • Experience supporting pupils with communication difficulties
    • Team Teach or other positive behaviour support training
