Job Description

Psychology Graduate Learning Support Assistant

Want school-based experience that maps neatly onto Educational Psychology or teacher training?

Use your psychology insight to lift attainment for under-achievers and support pupils with SEN.

*** Psychology Graduate Learning Support Assistant
*** Immediate start until July 2026
*** £81 - £101 per day
*** ‘Good’ primary school, Wolverhampton
*** 1:1 and small group support to under-achievers and SEN requirements

What you’ll do:
Target learning gaps through short, structured boosters in literacy and numeracy, alongside tailored SEN support. You’ll break tasks into clear, manageable steps, use visual supports and routines, and model regulation strategies. Expect 1:1 tuition, small-group work, quick progress notes, and tight feedback loops with class teachers and the SENCO.

Who you are:
A psychology (or related) graduate who communicates plainly, stays calm, and builds trust quickly. You follow support plans, keep boundaries consistent, and keep sessions brisk, purposeful, and child-centred.

Requirements
  • Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication – Strong verbal and written communication.
  • Enhanced DBS – Held already or willingness to obtain.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Clear interest in SEN, child development, and pupil wellbeing.
  • Experience working with children – Any relevant experience (SEN support, mentoring, tutoring, volunteering) is desirable but not essential.

The School:
This ‘Good’ Wolverhampton primary serves a diverse community with clear routines and a warm, inclusive ethos. Reading and core skills are a whole-school priority, with daily guided reading, robust phonics, and well-sequenced maths practice. The SEN team runs plan–do–review cycles, offers ready-made visual supports, and provides access to calm spaces when pupils need to reset. You’ll benefit from collaborative planning, labelled resources, and short coaching drop-ins that turn feedback into practical next steps. New staff receive a structured induction, weekly CPD, and regular check-ins with the SENCO so you can make impact quickly and grow professionally.

How to Apply
Send your CV and include your availability, DBS status, and (if possible) two referees. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief call and an in-school interview/observation. Early applications are encouraged, as the school may appoint before the closing date.

Due to the high volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
