Job Description

Psychology Graduate Learning Mentor

Looking to build experience that counts towards Educational Psychology or ITT?

Use your psychology grounding to help pupils with additional needs learn calmly and confidently.

*** Psychology Graduate Learning Mentor
*** Immediate start until July 2026
*** £95 - £110 per day
*** ‘Good’ Primary School, Coleshill
*** 1:1 and small group support with SEN children

What you’ll do:
Work closely with the SENCO and class teachers to deliver tailored support. You’ll structure tasks into clear, manageable steps, use visual scaffolds and predictable routines, and guide pupils through short, purposeful sessions that strengthen communication, regulation, and core literacy/numeracy. You’ll keep succinct notes on progress and agree next moves so support stays consistent across lessons.

Who you are:
A psychology (or related) graduate who notices the small details, communicates plainly, and adapts without fuss. You hold firm but fair boundaries, reduce prompts over time, and help pupils move towards independence.

Requirements
  • Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication – Clear, confident written and spoken English.
  • Enhanced DBS – Held already or willingness to obtain.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Evident interest in SEN, child development and wellbeing.
  • Experience working with children – Any relevant experience (SEN support, mentoring, tutoring, volunteering) is desirable but not essential.

The School:
This ‘Good’ Coleshill primary serves a mixed local intake and keeps classrooms calm through simple, consistent routines. Inclusion is a genuine strength: the SEN team runs regular plan–do–review cycles, provides ready-to-use visual supports and sensory tools, and offers access to regulation spaces when pupils need a reset. Reading is prioritised (systematic phonics and daily guided reading), while maths is taught in small, connected steps with frequent retrieval and practical models. Staff co-plan and share intervention packs, model answers and quick observation templates, so you can deliver impact without reinventing resources. New colleagues receive a clear induction, weekly bite-size CPD, and coaching drop-ins with precise, usable next steps—ideal conditions to evidence progress and prepare for Educational Psychology or teacher training routes.

How to Apply
Email your CV, confirming availability and DBS status (add two referees if you can). Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief phone screen and an in-school observation. Early applications are encouraged, as the school may appoint before the closing date.

Due to the volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
