Job Description

Primary Graduate Teaching Assistant

Want hands-on KS1 experience before teacher training?

Support pupils through focused 1:1 and small-group work that lifts confidence and progress.

*** Primary Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** Immediate start until July 2026
*** £80 - £90 per day
*** Good primary school, Wolverhampton
*** 1:1 and small group support across KS1

The Role:
You will deliver tightly planned 1:1 and small-group sessions that tie directly to the class sequence. You will build phonics, reading fluency and common-exception-word recall, and strengthen early writing through sentence modelling and guided practice. You will secure number fluency with daily rehearsal of place value and simple problem solving, using concrete and pictorial representations where needed. You will pre-teach key vocabulary and routines before new units start, check understanding with quick diagnostics, and fix misconceptions early so pupils return to lessons ready to engage. You will keep concise impact notes, update intervention trackers, and agree next steps with the class teacher so your support aligns with upcoming objectives and assessments.

The Candidate & Requirements:
You are a clear communicator who stays organised in busy classrooms and explains ideas in small, manageable steps. You notice gaps quickly, keep sessions purposeful, and help pupils move towards independence.

  • Degree, 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication, strong written and verbal skills.
  • Enhanced DBS, held already or willingness to obtain.
  • Desire to work in education/with children, genuine commitment to inclusion and progress.
  • Experience working with children, relevant experience is desirable but not essential.

The School:
This Good Wolverhampton primary runs calm, predictable routines that keep learning on track. Reading has protected daily time, with systematic phonics in Year 1 and guided reading across KS1. Maths is sequenced in small steps with regular low-stakes checks so methods stay consistent between classes. Year teams co-plan and share model texts, worked examples and ready-to-use intervention packs, which makes preparation efficient and ensures your sessions dovetail with classroom teaching. New colleagues receive a structured induction, weekly bite-size CPD and short coaching drop-ins with precise, usable next moves, giving you strong conditions to show impact quickly and build evidence for initial teacher training.

How to Apply
Apply through the job advert with your CV. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief call and an in-school observation. Roles may close early if filled.
