Job Description

Graduate Teaching Assistant

Could this be the classroom experience that sets you up properly for teacher training? Are you keen to work in KS1 and see how strong academic support helps younger pupils grow in confidence and attainment?

*** Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** September 2026 to July 2027
*** £85 - £101 per day
*** Superb primary school, Central Wolverhampton
*** Academic support in KS1 across the national curriculum

The Role:
Support KS1 pupils through targeted academic intervention and general classroom support across the national curriculum. You will help children strengthen early reading, writing, phonics, maths, and wider subject knowledge, while working closely with the teacher to reinforce learning and track progress. Teaching assistants commonly support classroom learning and help children with reading, writing, and other learning activities, while KS1 sits within the statutory primary national curriculum.

The Candidate:
You are patient, positive, and able to explain ideas clearly to younger pupils. You want practical primary experience, enjoy helping children build confidence in core subjects, and are keen to develop the classroom habits and understanding needed for a future in teaching. Primary teachers support the educational, social, and emotional development of children aged 3 to 11, so KS1 experience gives you a strong foundation before training.

Requirements
  • Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
    • Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
    • Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
    • Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
    • Career Goals – A desire to train as a teacher and build a long-term career in education.

The School:
This superb primary school in Central Wolverhampton offers the chance to build valuable KS1 experience in a setting where strong teaching, high expectations, and purposeful support matter. You will join a school where targeted classroom help is used well, pupils are supported to make steady academic progress, and graduates can learn quickly by working closely with experienced staff. Work with children is eligible for an Enhanced DBS check in the child workforce, and some roles involving regulated activity can also require a Children’s Barred List check.
