Job Description

Graduate Academic Coach

Could you provide the focused support one student needs to feel more confident and achieve more in school? Are you looking for meaningful secondary school experience before moving into educational or clinical psychology?

*** Graduate Academic Coach
*** September 2026 to July 2027
*** £85 - £101 per day
*** Location – secondary school, Shrewsbury
*** Support across a core subject – English, maths or science

The Role:
Provide targeted academic support for a student across a core subject area, depending on school need and your strongest subject. You will work on a 1:1 basis to help the student stay engaged in lessons, break work into manageable steps, build confidence, and access learning more successfully, while working closely with teaching staff to support steady academic progress.

The Candidate:
You are calm, organised, and able to explain ideas clearly in a way a young person can follow. You want practical school-based experience, you can stay patient in a busy secondary setting, and you are interested in how focused support helps a student overcome barriers to learning and achieve more consistently.

Requirements
• Degree – A 2:2 or above in English, English Literature, Creative Writing, Maths, Mathematics, Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Natural Sciences, or a related subject.
• Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
• Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
• Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
• Career Goals – A desire to train as a teacher or pursue a long-term career supporting children and young people in education.

The School:
This secondary school in Shrewsbury offers the chance to build valuable classroom experience in a setting where structure, strong routines, and purposeful support matter. You will work closely with teaching staff in a role that gives you direct exposure to academic intervention, student support, and the day-to-day strategies schools use to help pupils make progress across core subjects.
