Network Recruitment Wales is seeking a Senior Building Control Surveyor to join the Regeneration & Economic Development team in Newport. This role offers the chance to ensure buildings meet high standards of health, safety, sustainability, and accessibility while contributing to a dynamic service area.
What You’ll Do:
- Conduct technical assessments of full plan applications, Building Notices, and certificates to ensure compliance with Building Regulations and allied legislation.
- Inspect construction sites at various stages, maintaining accurate records of inspections and completions.
- Assess dangerous structures, issue notices, and implement immediate remedial actions under the Building Act 1984.
- Provide expert advice to contractors, architects, and the public on Building Regulations and construction matters.
- Promote Building Control services and handle public complaints courteously and efficiently.
- Oversee demolition processes, ensuring public safety through proper scaffolding and hoarding practices.
- Support enforcement actions, including preparing court cases and acting as a specialist witness when required.
- Supervise and mentor less experienced staff, contributing to team development.
What We’re Looking For:
- Qualifications: HND/HNC in a construction-related subject (Degree desirable); working towards or holding professional membership of RICS or CABE; Minimum Band A validation (Band B registration desirable).
- Experience: Proven experience in Building Control or a related construction discipline; familiarity with statutory obligations and customer-focused service delivery.
- Skills: Strong analytical and judgement skills; effective communication (oral and written); ability to work independently and meet deadlines; computer literacy with GIS and database systems.
- Attributes: Customer-oriented, flexible, team player with a commitment to continuous professional development.
- Special Requirements: Full UK driving licence for site visits; availability for out-of-hours standby rota and occasional non-standard hours (time off in lieu provided).
