Duration: 12 Weeks
Hours: 37 hours per week (7:30 - 15:30 Monday to Thursday, 7:30 - 15:00 Friday)
Salary: PAYE: £12.85 per hour | Umbrella: £16.32 per hour
Are you a dedicated individual with a passion for keeping communities clean and safe? NRW People is excited to offer two temporary Street Cleansing Operative roles with Newport City Council, based at Telford Street, Newport. Starting 30 September 2025, these 12-week positions provide sickness cover, offering a chance to contribute to the city’s waste and cleansing services.
What You’ll Do:
- Complete daily street cleansing tasks as per contract specifications, following the Daily Route Schedules.
- Perform litter picking, sweeping hard surfaces, and emptying bins to maintain a clean and sustainable environment.
- Comply with health and safety regulations, wearing Council-issued uniform and protective clothing.
- Report incidents, accidents, or faults, and attend required training courses as instructed.
- Undertake additional cleansing duties as directed by the Assistant Manager (Refuse & Cleansing), with flexibility for weekend or bank holiday shifts if needed.
What We’re Looking For:
- A motivated team player with stamina for walking, bending, lifting, and carrying duties, and the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Knowledge of the Newport City area and an understanding of public sector demands (essential), with experience in refuse/cleansing services desirable.
- A full UK driving licence is desirable, with good customer care skills, self-motivation, and a willingness to learn.
- Flexibility to work a rostered shift pattern (7:30 - 15:30 Mon-Thurs, 7:30 - 15:00 Fri), including weekends and bank holidays if required.
- Candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance to Newport, Newport.
