Network Recruitment Wales is seeking a
Business Support Officer (Administrative Assistant/Officer, Grade 3) to join the
Housing Advice and Prevention Team in Newport for a 19-week temporary assignment.
This is an excellent opportunity to play a vital role in supporting the delivery of key housing and community services, ensuring that administrative processes run smoothly and effectively to support residents and staff alike.
What You’ll Do:
- Provide efficient and accurate administrative support across the Housing and Communities service area.
- Manage diaries, prepare meeting materials, and act as the first point of contact for the Head of Service and other team members.
- Maintain and update systems, procedures, and records to ensure the smooth delivery of services.
- Support colleagues with day-to-day administrative tasks, including data processing, document management, and correspondence.
- Arrange and facilitate multi-agency meetings, taking accurate minutes and distributing them in a timely manner.
- Monitor office supplies, process orders and payments in line with Council financial procedures, and manage petty cash where required.
- Ensure compliance with GDPR and data protection legislation, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Assist with the collation of performance management information and contribute to ongoing service improvement initiatives.
- Provide cover and support to other administrative colleagues as required, demonstrating flexibility and teamwork.
What We’re Looking For:
- Educated to GCSE level (A–C) in English and Maths or equivalent (QCF Level 2).
- Proven experience providing administrative support within an office environment.
- Competent IT skills with experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and database systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise professionally with staff, managers, and external agencies.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads effectively in a busy environment.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
- Understanding of confidentiality, GDPR, and data protection principles.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a supportive team.
- Flexible and adaptable approach to work, with a positive, can-do attitude.
Desirable:
- Experience within a local government or social services environment.
- Experience using Welsh Community Care Information System (WCCIS).
- Experience providing support to senior management.
- Knowledge of housing or community service functions.
- RSA Stage 2, CLAIT, ECDL, or equivalent IT qualification.
Essential Requirements:
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Criminal Convictions Declaration.
