Hours: 37 hours per week (rostered shifts, including weekends and bank holidays)
Salary:- PAYE: £13.68 per hour
- Umbrella: £17.67 per hour
Are you a reliable and hardworking Driver/Operative with experience in street cleansing or environmental services? Network Recruitment Wales is seeking a
Driver/General Operative (Grade 4) to support a one-off project within the
Waste & Cleansing Service in Newport. This 12-week temporary role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming public spaces across the city.
What You’ll Do:
- Carry out day-to-day street cleansing duties in line with contractual specifications and daily route schedules.
- Drive Council vehicles in accordance with the Driver Handbook and all operational instructions.
- Work safely at all times, complying with Health & Safety regulations and wearing required PPE and Council uniform.
- Support and, where required, supervise Cleansing Operatives while working as part of a team.
- Report incidents, accidents, faults, or hazards promptly to supervisors or managers.
- Attend mandatory training courses and undertake additional driving or cleansing duties as directed.
What We’re Looking For:
- A full, current UK driving licence (essential).
- Knowledge of the Newport City area and an understanding of public sector working environments.
- Experience working within refuse, waste, or street cleansing services (desirable).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, meeting targets and deadlines.
- Strong customer care skills and a positive, self-motivated attitude.
- Physical stamina to undertake outdoor work involving walking, lifting, bending, and carrying in all weather conditions.
- Willingness to work rostered shifts, including weekends, bank holidays, and extra-statutory days.
Essential Requirements:
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Criminal Convictions Declaration.
- CV.
- Signed Confidentiality Agreement upon offer acceptance.
Working Hours:
- Monday to Thursday: 7:30am – 3:30pm
- Friday: 7:30am – 3:00pm
(Shift patterns may vary and include weekends and bank holidays.)
