Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday–Thursday: 7:30am–3:30pm, Friday: 7:30am–3:00pm)
Rate: PAYE: £12.59 per hour | Umbrella: £15.99 per hour

About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Driver/General Operative to join our Waste & Cleansing team in Newport. Under the supervision of the Manager (Refuse & Cleansing) and Supervisors, you will carry out contractual street cleansing duties and, when required, drive Council vehicles. This role involves working to daily route schedules, ensuring high standards of cleanliness, and adhering to health and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities

• Complete daily street cleansing tasks as per contract specifications and route schedules.
• Drive Council vehicles in compliance with the Driver Handbook.
• Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including wearing Council-provided uniform and protective clothing.
• Take reasonable care of personal and others’ safety, reporting incidents, accidents, or faults.
• Attend training courses as instructed.
• Supervise Cleansing Operatives when working collaboratively.
• Undertake additional driving or cleansing duties as directed by the Manager (Refuse & Cleansing).

Qualifications and Experience

• Essential: Hold a current, full UK driving licence.
• Desirable: Experience in a refuse/cleansing environment and supervisory experience.

• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Physical stamina for walking, bending, lifting, and carrying tasks.
