Job Description

A reputable London Local Authority is seeking an experienced Client Affairs Officer to join its Adult Social Care Finance team.
This is a rewarding opportunity to support vulnerable adults by managing statutory financial affairs, ensuring clients receive the financial support and protection they are entitled to.

Rate: £22.86 per hour PAYE (£29.21 per hour Umbrella)
Location: Greater London 
Contract: Interim Contract 
Working Pattern: Hybrid Working | 2 Day/ Also when required

The successful candidate will oversee a varied caseload involving appointeeship, deputyship, property protection, estate administration, and Council funeral arrangements, while working closely with Adult Social Care professionals, external organisations, and family members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of Appointeeship, Deputyship, Property Protection, Estate and Funeral cases.
    • Act as the Council's representative for vulnerable adults requiring financial management and statutory support.
    • Submit and manage Appointeeship applications with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
    • Ensure clients receive all eligible benefits and financial entitlements.
    • Administer and reconcile client bank accounts and personal financial records.
    • Process invoices, payments, petty cash, and financial transactions in accordance with Council policies.
    • Liaise with banks, solicitors, estate agents, the Court of Protection, the Public Trustee, and other external agencies.
    • Arrange property protection, secure client belongings, and coordinate storage where required.
    • Support the sale of client property where authorised by the Court of Protection.
    • Administer deceased estates in accordance with the Care Act and Council procedures.
    • Arrange Council funerals, ensuring services are delivered sensitively while respecting cultural, religious, and personal wishes.
    • Attend multi-disciplinary meetings, case conferences, and professional meetings to represent the Client Affairs service.
    • Maintain accurate financial records, prepare reports, and ensure compliance with legislation and internal financial controls.
    • Deliver a professional, compassionate, and customer-focused service to vulnerable adults and their families.
Essential Experience
  • Previous experience within Client Affairs, Adult Social Care Finance, Appointeeship, Deputyship, Court of Protection, Welfare Benefits, Financial Assessment, or a similar role.
    • Experience managing vulnerable adults' finances and maintaining confidential financial records.
    • Good understanding of Adult Social Care legislation, DWP benefits, Appointeeship, Deputyship, or Court of Protection processes.
    • Experience reconciling accounts, processing payments, and administering financial records.
    • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work sensitively with vulnerable adults, families, and professionals.
    • Strong organisational skills with experience managing a varied caseload.
    • Experience using Microsoft Office applications and financial or case management systems.
    • Ability to prioritise workloads and work independently while contributing effectively within a team.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience working within a Local Authority or Adult Social Care environment.
    • Knowledge of the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, Court of Protection, and DWP Appointeeship processes.
    • Experience administering estates, property protection, or Council funerals.
    • Knowledge of Adult Social Care charging policies and welfare benefits.
