Salary: £14.36 - £16.10 per hour (depending on experience)
Contract Type: Term-time only (44.0877 paid weeks, including statutory holiday entitlement)
Working Hours: Negotiable

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Finance Officer to join our administration team. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in the financial management of the school and contribute meaningfully to our students' ability to enjoy and achieve.

Reporting directly to the Business Manager, the Finance Officer will lead on the day-to-day financial operations of the school. You will ensure that all financial activities are compliant with regulatory standards, policies, and procedures. Your proactive and precise work will help maintain the financial integrity of the school, supporting both operational excellence and strategic financial planning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and support the Finance Assistant.
  • Ensure all financial transactions comply with the school’s Finance Policy and the Academies Financial Handbook.
  • Manage monthly reconciliations and Academy control accounts.
  • Oversee processing of visa statements and monthly financial checklists.
  • Prepare and submit monthly VAT claims.
  • Monitor school budgets and prepare clear, insightful financial reports.
  • Manage debtor reports, ensuring timely collection of all monies due.
  • Assist with preparation for annual audits and maintain year-end schedules.
  • Authorise and manage supplier BACS payments.
  • Maintain and update the school inventory annually.
  • Oversee financial aspects of trips, events, exam fees and ensure correct procedures for collecting and banking monies.
  • Handle supplier queries and manage duplicate payment investigations.
  • Complete and submit required financial returns and liaise with external agencies.
  • Oversee input and authorisation of school orders, invoices and payment batches.
Qualifications & Experience
  • ACCA or AAT qualification in Accountancy (or working towards), or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Strong understanding of financial procedures, reporting and compliance.
  • Experience in a school or education setting is desirable but not essential.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to use financial systems confidently and accurately.
