Tenancy Rights Adviser – South East London Location: South East London
Rate: £30 per hour (Umbrella)
Working Pattern: Hybrid – minimum 2 days per week in the office
Contract: 3 Months Ongoing

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Tenancy Rights Adviser to join a newly established Renters’ Rights Act (RRA) Tenancy Rights, Advice and Enforcement Team within a South East London local authority.
This specialist team will play a central role in delivering the council’s new responsibilities under the Renters’ Rights Act, supporting tenants, preventing homelessness, and taking robust enforcement action where required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver specialist tenancy rights advice and support to private renters
    • Manage a caseload involving unlawful eviction, harassment, tenancy disputes, and related enforcement matters
    • Undertake investigations into breaches of tenancy and housing legislation
    • Support homelessness prevention through early intervention and resident engagement
    • Maintain accurate case records and produce clear, defensible decisions
    • Work closely with internal departments and external partners to deliver effective outcomes for residents
    • Contribute to the development of the council’s response to the Renters’ Rights Act
Requirements We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate:
  • Knowledge of tenancy law, the Renters’ Rights Act, and related housing legislation
    • Experience managing casework within a frontline advice, support, or enforcement environment
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a trauma-informed and empathetic way
    • The ability to make sound, evidence-based decisions and maintain accurate records
    • A collaborative and proactive approach to partnership working
