Estates Technician – Mechanical (Band 5)
West Suffolk
3 months Temp to Perm

Join a skilled Estates team and help keep the engineering systems and infrastructure that support patient care safe, reliable and running smoothly.

As an Estates Technician – Mechanical, you’ll use your technical expertise to maintain, repair and optimise a wide range of plant, equipment and building services across the Trust. This is a varied role with opportunities to work on complex systems, specialist equipment and improvement projects.

What you’ll do
Diagnose and repair complex mechanical and M&E faults.
Carry out planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs and specialist installations.
Maintain and test mechanical plant and equipment, including heating, ventilation, hot water and associated building services.
Work with decontamination equipment, including washer disinfectors and steam sterilisers.
Undertake testing, inspection and maintenance of pressure vessels and lifting equipment.
Support critical systems including HVAC, water, refrigeration and other specialist services.
Undertake Competent Person (CP) and Authorised Person (AP) duties following appropriate training.
Interpret technical drawings, investigate faults and recommend effective engineering solutions.
Participate in the Estates on-call rota and respond to emergency repairs.

The role also includes working one weekend day per month, with a day off in lieu the following week, as well as overtime and out-of-hours duties when required.

What you’ll bring
A recognised apprenticeship in a mechanical trade.
C&G or NVQ Level 3 in an engineering discipline, or equivalent.
Relevant engineering or building maintenance experience.
Experience carrying out mechanical, electrical and building maintenance repairs.
Good IT skills and the ability to interpret technical drawings and data.
Experience in an acute hospital environment is desirable, as is knowledge of low-pressure hot water systems and NHS HTMs including HTM 01 Decontamination, HTM 03 Heating & Ventilation and HTM 06 Electrical Services.
