Role & Key Skills & Experience Required:
This role is for an individual with strong technical and leadership skills in the field of highways and civil engineering design, with a focus on managing multidisciplinary projects. Key highlights of the role include:
Technical Proficiency
- Strong experience with Civil 3D, AutoCAD , and MicroDrainage (or equivalent software) for highways, drainage, and civil works design.
- Expertise in design and specification of drainage, earthworks, highways, and utilities for residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
- Ability to check and sign off on technical design work to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards.
Project Leadership
- Proven experience leading projects across a variety of sectors (e.g., residential, commercial, and industrial), from conception through to technical approval.
- Ability to act as a technical discipline lead for larger projects or manage a range of smaller projects independently.
- Skilled in managing client relationships and collaborating with contractors, design teams, local authorities, and statutory bodies.
Team Management
- Strong leadership skills to mentor and develop a team of engineers and technicians, including supporting junior staff on their path to becoming Chartered Engineers.
- Experience supervising and coordinating project teams, ensuring the delivery of work on time and within budget.
Communication & Collaboration
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for preparing technical reports, liaising with clients, and representing the organization in professional settings.
- Able to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, ensuring smooth interaction with both internal and external stakeholders.
Desired Qualifications
- A Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification.
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards achieving chartership with a recognized professional body.
Other Responsibilities
- Scheme investigation and site inspections to gather data for project design and implementation.
- Construction supervision to ensure projects progress in line with design specifications.
- Responsibility for managing project delivery, ensuring work is completed on time, within budget, and to the required standards.
