What does a Dietetic Assistant do?
Dietetic assistants assist dietitians in planning nutritional programmes and in planning menus for patients as part of an overall treatment plan under supervision of a dietitian. They assist dietitians in patient reviews, enteral feeding discharge planning, and clinical auditing which includes nutritional screening.
Tasks required include:
- Provides information, support and advice on diet.
- Counsels people on their problems, feelings and dealing with stress.
- Provides information, support and advice on healthy living and helps people develop healthier lifestyles.
- Teaches parents about pregnancy, delivery and early parenthood.
- Examines horses’ teeth for health problems and provides dental treatments which do not need to be provided by a vet.
