What does a Homelessness Officer do?
Homelessness and housing advice and support workers provide on-the-spot assistance, counselling and advice to people who have housing problems or live on the streets. They present them with services available to homeless people starting from hostel vacancies to financial aid services. They provide practical support and guidance to their clients, help them with benefits, healthcare and they create support plans.
Tasks required include:
- Advises on rights and entitlements in relation to benefits, health, discrimination and welfare.
- Advises individuals and families experiencing problems about available resources to assist them.
- Assists and liaises with professionals in social work, the probation service and related welfare areas.
- Organises day, residential and home care services.
