How long does it take to become a qualified tradesperson?

The timeframe varies by trade and route. A typical apprenticeship for Plumbing jobs or carpentry takes around 2 to 4 years to reach NVQ Level 2 or 3, with additional time for advanced certifications. Fast-track courses can provide basics more quickly, but employers usually prefer on-the-job experience. If you start in Labourer jobs and move into a trade, expect a few years of combined training and site experience to become fully competent. Continuous professional development is common across Building jobs as standards and technologies evolve.
