What does a Software Engineer do?

Software developers build a non-trivial piece of software from the ground up and see it through to completion. They implement or program all kinds of software systems based on specifications and designs by using programming languages, tools, and platforms.

Tasks required include:

  • Develops user interfaces.
  • Develops website and website interfaces and establishes methods to ensure appropriate website security and recovery.
  • Examines existing software and determines requirements for new/modified systems in the light of business needs.
  • Implements and evaluates the software.
  • Plans and maintains database structures.
  • Tests and corrects software programs.
  • Undertakes feasibility study to design software solutions.
  • Writes and codes individual programs according to specifications.

  • Writes operational documentation and provides subsequent support and training for users.
