Structural engineers design structures to withstand stresses and pressures imposed through environmental conditions and human use. Structural engineers help to design most structures, including houses, hospitals, office blocks, bridges, oil rigs, ships and aircraft and are responsible for choosing the appropriate materials. Tasks required include:
Civil engineers usually possess an accredited three or four-year degree in civil engineering or engineering science or an accredited Higher National Diploma or Certificate.
