  Calibration and precision instrument technicians test and calibrate electrical and electronic equipment. They read blueprints and other technical drawings to assemble precision instruments such as micrometers, gauges, thermostats and utility meters. They develop testing procedures and ensure that equipment meets requirements for precision, performance and accuracy.

  Tasks required include:

  • Examines drawings or specifications to determine appropriate methods, materials and sequence of operation.
  • Marks out and machines aluminium, brass, steel and plastics using machine tools such as grinders, lathes and shapers.
