Pertemps is to mitigate more than 550 tonnes of its carbon emissions as it ramped up its commitment to the environment in line with a new corporate strategy.

The recruitment specialist has donated to the Woodland Trust which has established its own woodland carbon scheme to enable companies and individuals in the UK to compensate for their contribution to UK greenhouse gas emissions by helping the charity to create or enable the creation of new native woodland in the UK, which in time will absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

By joining the woodland carbon scheme, Pertemps have supported the planting of approximately 2,377 UK native trees which will sequester around 557 tonnes of carbon throughout their lifetime.

The independent recruitment specialist has also made a donation to sponsor a one-acre grove at Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Wood, in Leicestershire, which contains around 750 newly planted trees. The donation encompasses ongoing care and management of the trees to ensure they grow into maturity, enabling them to provide shelter and food for wildlife.

Pertemps Director Lisa Duncan said: “An organisation the size of Pertemps has a responsibility to do what we can to minimise our impact on the environment.

“This builds on the work we have been doing for a number of years to minimise our environmental impact, such as now having well over half of our company vehicle fleet hybrid or all electric.

“It also supports the ESG commitments made in our new three-year corporate strategy.

“We are proud to be supporting the Woodland Trust and doing our bit for nature and for people.”

Earlier this year, Pertemps, based in Meriden, Warwickshire, committed to reaching net zero by 2030 as it prioritised its environmental work as part of the revamped strategy.
