Role Overview:We are looking for a skilled Datacentre Engineer for a leading IT service provider to provide crucial support for hardware maintenance and troubleshooting across the datacentre. This is a great opportunity for someone with experience in a datacentre environment who enjoys problem-solving, working in a team, and providing top-tier technical support.
The role will involve 3rd level hardware break-fix services and a full IMAC (Install, Move, Add, Change) service. You'll also be providing smart hands support for IT security and tape management services. This position is based in Macmerry, East Lothian, and candidates should be within easy commuting distance.
Key Responsibilities:- 3rd Level Hardware Break-Fix: Provide troubleshooting and repair for HPE X86 estate hardware across the datacentre.
- IMAC Services: Handle the installation, decommissioning, and moves of hardware across the datacentre facilities, using tools like Part Surfer, Intelligent Provisioning, CMDB, and ServiceNow.
- Smart Hands Support: Assist IT Security teams with troubleshooting, replacing hardware units via the RMA process, and configuring replacements to enable remote access for security operations.
- Tape Management: Eject and load tapes for the remote backup team, ensuring accurate backups and storage.
- Occasional Travel: You may be required to travel between local datacentres (though this will not be a regular part of the role).
What We’re Looking For:- You must have a solid background working in a datacentre, with hands-on hardware maintenance and troubleshooting experience.
- Familiarity with hardware break-fix procedures and basic configurations for IT systems.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with internal teams in a professional and friendly manner.
- A proactive, flexible attitude, with the ability to work well under pressure and handle unexpected challenges.
- You should enjoy working as part of a team but also have the ability to take initiative when required.
Shift and On-Call Requirements:- The role operates on a shift rota, including early and late shifts.
- You will also be required to provide on-call support for out-of-hours and weekend shifts on a 1 in 4 basis.
This is an umbrella contract, the role is Inside IR35. The role is temp with a view to it being permanent after 6 months.
