Job Description

Main Duties and Responsibilities
To complete the statutory procedure for Annual Reviews under the 1996 Education Act & Childrens and Family Act 2014, which will lead to the effective maintenance of Education Health and Care Plans.

To work to timescales so that Annual Reviews are processed in an efficient and qualitative manner within the statutory time scales.

To liaise where appropriate with Headteachers, Educational Psychologists and other professionals on a number of issues including the collation of advice for statutory assessment.
 
To signpost parents of pupils with special educational needs to appropriate services and departments.
 
To speak to parents when required to offer transparency in relation to their child’s case. This will include provision of information specific to each case, as well as information relating to the relevant legislation.


To demonstrate a sensitive and supportive attitude when processing material relating to multi-professional procedures and when dealing directly with parents and professionals. To ensure that information is handled confidentially at all times.


To arrange the admission of EHCP pupils to other LEA’s special schools and, when required, to independent special schools and FE Colleges.
 
To deal with the admission of EHCP pupils to West Berkshire FE Colleges, particularly relating to post 16 procedures.
 
To attend annual reviews when required.
 
To deal with administrative work relating to Annual Reviews of EHCP pupils.
 
To maintain and update accurate manual and computerised records of pupils attending specialist schools or resources, including West Berkshire pupils placed in other LEA provision or in non-maintained schools.
 
To prioritise the cases of all pupils who are looked after by the Local Authority to ensure that they are progressed promptly.
 
On occasions, to attend Support & Review Meetings on behalf of the SEN Manager.
 
To process requests for transport from schools and parents, liaising with the transport officers. To ensure pupil’s transport details are entered promptly on the Routewise IT system, and to deal with any associated documentation.
 
To draft letters relevant to cases as required by senior officers.
 
To provide general support to senior officers on case work matters, including provision of briefing notes and case summaries. To be aware of and anticipate potential problems relating to individual cases and to alert senior officers.
 
To undertake any other tasks as the Director of Education may from time to time reasonably require.
Must have experience in;
Administrative experience, including experience of using IT
Experience working in statutory SEN
Ability to use Outlook, and a web browser to access information
Basic ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc)
Good interpersonal and communication skills:  the ability to relate effectively to parents, professionals and colleagues, and to deal
with difficult situations, including telephone conversations with members of the public who may be very distressed or irate.
Computer literacy skills, including use of data bases, word processing and spreadsheets.
The ability to write clearly, in a way appropriate to the intended audience and consistent with corporate style.
The ability to manage paperwork in an efficient and methodical way.

Hybrid working - 2 days a week in the office and 3 days remote.
