Job Description

Primary Teaching Assistant

Could you step into a busy primary classroom and become the extra support pupils rely on each day? Are you looking for a varied school-based role where you can build experience across 1:1 work, group activities, and general classroom support?

*** Primary Teaching Assistant
*** £80 - £95 per day
*** September 2026 to July 2027
*** Large primary school, Ward of Yardley
*** 1:1, small group and general TA duties

The Role:
Work across the classroom supporting pupils through 1:1 help, small-group work, and general teaching assistant duties. You will help children stay engaged, reinforce learning in core subjects, prepare simple resources, and support the teacher with day-to-day classroom routines. Teaching assistants support teachers in the classroom and help children with reading, writing and learning activities.

The Candidate:
You are flexible, dependable, and able to communicate clearly with pupils and staff. You enjoy being part of the classroom, supporting children with different needs, and helping lessons run smoothly from start to finish. This role suits someone who wants practical primary experience and is interested in building a future in education. Primary teachers work with children aged 3 to 11 and support their educational, social and emotional development, which makes this kind of role a strong foundation for teacher training.

Requirements
  • Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
    • Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
    • Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
    • Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
    • Career Goals – A desire to train as a teacher and build a long-term career in education.

The School:
This large primary school in the Ward of Yardley offers the chance to build broad classroom experience in a busy, supportive setting. You will join a team where strong classroom support matters, routines are important, and pupils benefit from extra help throughout the school day. GOV.UK guidance states that work with children can be eligible for an Enhanced DBS check in the child workforce, and regulated activity roles can also require a Children’s Barred List check.
