Job Description
English Academic Coach
Can you help KS4 pupils grow in confidence and start performing better in English? Want a school-based role that gives you the right experience before you train to teach?
*** English Academic Coach
*** £85 - £125 per day initially
*** Temp to Perm
*** State of the Art secondary, Birmingham
*** Opportunity to build confidence and train as a teacher
The Role:
Work with the English department to provide tailored academic support for KS4 pupils who need extra help with reading, writing, analysis, and exam preparation. You will deliver 1:1 and small-group intervention, reinforce classroom learning, support revision, and give teachers clear feedback on pupil progress. Secondary school staff commonly work with small groups of students and follow safeguarding procedures as part of daily practice.
The Candidate:
You are articulate, organised, and able to explain ideas clearly in a way pupils understand. You enjoy helping students build confidence in English, you want practical experience in a secondary setting, and you see this role as a strong route into teacher training and a future in teaching. Secondary school teachers work with students aged 11 to 18, plan and teach lessons, work with small groups, and follow safeguarding procedures, so this kind of support role gives useful exposure to that environment.
Requirements
The School:
This state of the art secondary school in Birmingham offers the chance to build valuable subject-based experience in a modern setting where academic support matters. You will join a school that values targeted intervention, strong classroom practice, and graduates who want to develop into future teachers. GOV.UK’s eligibility guidance for Enhanced DBS checks was updated on 20 January 2026, and it remains the key guidance for roles working with children.
