Senior Fire Engineer
Location: Reading, UK
Working Arrangement: Fully remote
Salary: £55,000 to £65,000 depending on experience


The Opportunity
A growing engineering consultancy is looking for a Senior Fire Engineer to join its expanding fire engineering team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Fire Engineer to take ownership of projects, develop their technical expertise and play a key role in the continued growth of the fire engineering team.

Projects span retail, commercial, residential, data centres and council housing, providing a varied and interesting workload with the opportunity to work across a broad range of sectors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop fire engineering strategies in accordance with BS 9999, BS 9991, BS 7974 and Approved Document B.
    • Undertake and lead fire risk assessments and provide technical fire safety advice.
    • Design and assess active fire protection systems, including sprinklers, water mist and gaseous suppression.
    • Lead and support CFD modelling and fire simulations where required.
    • Undertake and oversee fire systems design using BIM software such as Revit.
    • Prepare and review technical reports, fire safety statements and evacuation strategies.
    • Liaise directly with clients, architects, contractors and regulatory authorities.
    • Attend and lead site surveys, inspections and technical meetings where required.
    • Take responsibility for the technical delivery of projects from inception through to completion.
    • Review technical work and provide guidance and support to junior and intermediate engineers.
    • Assist with project planning, resource management and meeting project deadlines.
    • Support the development of technical standards, processes and best practice within the fire engineering team.
    • Contribute to client relationships and the development of new project opportunities where appropriate.

About You
  • You will ideally have 5+ years' experience within fire engineering consultancy or a related discipline, together with:
    • A relevant degree in Fire Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related subject.
    • Strong practical experience of UK fire safety regulations and standards.
    • A strong understanding of fire engineering principles and proven experience applying these to a range of projects.
    • Experience developing fire engineering strategies and delivering projects with a high level of technical responsibility.
    • Experience with fire suppression systems would be advantageous.
    • Knowledge of Revit, AutoSprink, PyroSim, FDS or CFAST would be beneficial.
    • Strong communication, client-facing and report writing skills.
    • The ability to manage projects and work independently whilst contributing effectively to a wider team.
    • Experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers.
    • The ability to provide sound technical advice and confidently communicate recommendations to clients and other project stakeholders.
    • IFE membership or progress towards Chartership would be advantageous.
