JOB DESCRIPTION

Residential Care Workers, also known as Care Assistants, play a crucial role in providing care and support to individuals living in residential settings. These individuals may include the elderly, individuals with disabilities, or those with mental health needs. Residential Care Workers ensure the well-being, safety, and overall quality of life for residents within the residential care facility.

QUALIFICATIONS

There are no formal academic entry requirements. In most cases workers will be required to register with the appropriate statutory body which involves satisfying the registration criteria. This would normally include holding or working towards the appropriate qualification for the job. Entrants must typically be 18 years old and have experience of working in a care environment. Both Off and on-the-job training is available. A wide range of qualifications including NVQs/SVQs covering various aspects of care are available. Background checks including a DBS check are likely to be required.

TASKS

  • Provide personal care and assistance with daily activities, such as dressing, grooming, bathing, and toileting, based on the individual needs of residents..
  • Offer emotional support, companionship, and a listening ear to residents, fostering positive relationships and a supportive living environment..
  • Administer medication as prescribed, following established protocols and ensuring residents adhere to their medication schedules..
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of individualized care plans, collaborating with residents, their families, and healthcare professionals..
  • Ensure the safety and security of residents within the residential setting, identifying and addressing any potential risks or hazards..
  • Plan and facilitate activities and programs that promote social engagement, physical well-being, and mental stimulation among residents..
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of resident care, activities, and any relevant information, ensuring compliance with regulations..
  • Communicate effectively with residents, their families, and other staff members to provide updates, address concerns, and ensure a collaborative approach to care..
  • Respond to emergencies or crises within the residential setting, implementing appropriate interventions to ensure the safety and well-being of residents..
  • Advocate for the rights and needs of residents, working to enhance their quality of life and access to appropriate services..
